Biography
Fatma Fahmy is a documentary photographer, focusing her attention on capturing daily life in Arab countries, in particular Egyptian society. Fahmy received a B.A. degree in Chemical Engineering from Cairo University in 2013. She focuses particularly on societies that are still holding and preserving on to their old traditional roots. She makes use of ethnographic photography practices in the process of creating visual narratives; creating an image that mimics the memory of the place and its people. She was the recipient of the Daniele Tamagni Grant at the Market Photo Workshop which assisted her to join the Photojournalism and Documentary Photography Programme in 2020. She was nominated for the World Press Photo Joop Swart masterclass in 2018. Her work has been exhibited internationally including at the Cite Internationale des Arts in Paris and the Photographic Angle Exhibition in the UK. She is currently based in Cairo, Egypt.
