Most seasonal workers wait for jobs that they can earn a living from. Afghan migrants, who can’t benefit from government allowance, are more likely to wait for such jobs to earn more.Depending on the season, the migrants will take jobs that are specific to that season, such as cleaning fur or wool, pistachios and saffron flowers. The best time for these workers is the Saffron season. With the start of the saffron harvest season in Khorasan Razavi, cleaning saffron flowers is more profitable. Most of the Afghan immigrants living in the Golshahr neighborhood of Mashhad buy the saffron flowers from brokers who prepare and distribute them from the markets of the surrounding cities, especially Torbat-e Heydarieh.Torbat-e Heydariyeh, with a cultivated area of 8,400 hectares, has accommodated many workers from the surrounding villages and cities such as Torbat-e Jam, Gonabad, Khaf, etc. hence the harvesting season will create jobs for 70,000 people. The average harvest of saffron in this region is four kilograms per hectare. Khorasan Razavi, with an 80% share of Iranian saffron production, is the center of saffron production in the world.
