Living Along With Gun

Women are an essential part of the political and civil struggle and the Kurdish community’s advancement.

It is a matter of pride that Kurdish women worldwide have become symbols of courage and resistance, proving that women are revolutionary forces, not victims.

In Kurdistan, there is always a gun in homes of the Kurds. It has become a part of the house.

Zuleikha Abubakir, born in 1952 in Gulan village. Now she lives in Ranya. She uses her weapon for hunting and for strangers to identify themselves. She treats this weapon as her child, She has no children of her own.
Zuleikha Qadr Ali, born in 1963 in Khoshnawati village. Now She lives in Erbil. Her family always keep weapons in their home. This pistol belongs to her younger son who lives in Germany now. She treats this weapon as her child.
Gule Muhammed ameen is born in 1968 in Faghyan village. Her brothers are martyred and she believes that her weapon is her honour.
Haji’s wife is from Gulan Village, after the passing of her husband, she uses his weapon when taking out the cows. Haji’s wife uses the weapon for protection and feels like it’s her friend.
Zainab is 20 years old. She is a student and lives in Gulan village. She loves her weapon and pen; she believes one can make revolutions by weapon and peace by just a pen. She keeps her weapon at home to protect herself.
Fatmma Kaka is 60 years old; she is from Gulan village. Her life is full of adventures. She and her husband keep different types of weapons at home. Their son is a member of Iraqi forces.
Aishesh is 57 years old. She is from Gulan village and currently lives in Ranya. She treats their weapon as their legacy and believes that weapon protects them.
Jeno Mohamad Ali was born in 1996 in Ranya. She says she can protect herself with her weapon and it’s her honour.
Habibeh is 55 years old and she is from Gulan village. She lives in Ranya, her husband is dead because he had killed someone and as a punishment, he was killed too. She keeps the pistol to protect herself.
Rabiaa Mohamadameen Hasan was born in 1962 in Gulan village. According to Rabiaa, she has grown up in the field and the mountain and she knows weapons since she was a child.
Shanga Dara Abdulrahman was born in 1999 in Ranya village. She believes carrying a weapon for a woman is a sign of her strength.
Najeba Muhajmad Kakl was born in 1970 in Hanjere village. She believes owning a weapon is necessary and makes one feel special.
Nazdar Rasul Abdulla Ahmed was born in 1968. She thinks owning a weapon is crucial for maintaining independence.
