The notion that people connect to the past, present and future through characters and icons instills a greater sense of meaning to our lives. This collection of photos narrates changes in Iranian women’s status and aesthetics criteria throughout history. Photos of the two upper sheets depict the contiguity of a Qajar woman and picture the defined aesthetic criterion of the 19th century. The lower sheets picture modern Iranian women who underwent plastic surgeries (aesthetic criterion of the 21st century), adjacent to the simple face of a contemporary woman. This contiguity aims to compare the past to the present in 21st century Iran. Thus, Persian women’s incessant pursuit of matching common aesthetic criteria became the subject of the creation of such work.
