2022 YEAR IN PHOTOS

Middle East Images bring together photographers from the MENA region, giving a first-hand experience through their lens. Our goal is to give a visual narrative of local stories with a global vision.
Our 2022 selection of photos and year in review was curated by the Archive Manager here at Middle East Images, Kia Rastar. These photos are a fraction of the work produced by our agency. Through this selection, Kia aimed to give us a window into the photographic vision and a glimpse of what we covered the past year.

Iraq was hit by another dust storm on Sunday again. Climate change has drastically affected these series of dust storms, and they have become increasingly common in Baghdad, Iraq. Experts predict that these dust storms will get worst in the next few decades and Iraq could suffer a 15 to 20% drop in water resources in the next two decades. © Mortada Emad/Middle East Images

Asmar is warming up and preparing the oven for baking traditional bread.
They are one of the Kurdish nomadic families of Kermanj who were forced to migrate from their homeland to these areas to protect the eastern borders of Iran, and during this period they lost many of their cultural characteristics and behaviors.

A 10- story commercial building under construction collapsed in the southwestern city of Abadan, Iran on Monday, May 23; leaving a horrific scene and several casualties behind. Shops and even vehicles in the nearby streets have been buried under the ruins of the building.
