Keiwan Fatehi, born 1982 in Kurdistan, Iran, is a photographer and visual storyteller whose work centers on the profound complexities of the human condition. A member of Middle East Images, Fatehi began his professional career in 2014, establishing himself as a dedicated documentary photographer.
In 2016, he provided extensive coverage of the conflict between the Islamic State (ISIS) and the Kurdish Peshmerga forces in Bashik and Makhmur. His diverse portfolio ranges from intimate portrayals of the challenges faced by female Peshmerga fighters to innovative collage-based reflections on the aftermath of the Woman Life Freedom Movement in Iran.
Fatehi’s work has gained significant international recognition, with exhibitions at the University of Exeter in the UK (2024). His photographs have been featured in major global publications, including The Guardian, Libération, Causette, CNN Spain, and Gara.
Having lived in exile in recent years, Fatehi’s lens has increasingly focused on conflict, displacement, and the plight of refugees. His ongoing long-term project documents the Kurdish struggle in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, with a specific emphasis on the diaspora from Rojhalat. In 2024, Fatehi expanded his storytelling into cinema with his first short film, “I Couldn’t Speak Up.” He is currently developing a new photography project titled “We Need Peace.”
