Femicide has become an integral part of the daily news and events in the Kurdistan Region. For ordinary people, it has become synonymous with the killing of women on the pretext of honor by close men and family members. Femicide is evolving into a tradition and a grievous phenomenon. It is a common occurrence in Kurdish society. Those who kill women on the pretext of honor also assail the honor of other women every day. They are regarded as heroes, as if they have accomplished something significant and righteous. Despite the existence of numerous women’s organizations, the issue of women’s murder has not been eradicated. The actions undertaken by these organizations when a woman is killed amount to nothing more than issuing statements and participating in protests. There exists a women’s rights committee in the parliament and hundreds of specialized organizations, yet femicide persists. It must be emphasized that violence against women equates to violence against all of humanity, especially future generations, in whose hearts violence is burgeoning and being perpetuated day by day. The only viable means to liberate women in society is to exert pressure on the authorities to amend the unequal laws that impede the progress and advancement of all women.
